In the weeks that followed, it became clear that emergency intervention would only partially alleviate the human, material and psychological damage. A more sustained and incisive intervention was therefore necessary, implemented through collaboration with the Tzu Chi Buddhist Charity Foundation, CADIS' partner in other projects (Covid-19 emergency response and Ukrainian emergency), which will finance the intervention.
Project partners, together with the Tzu Chi Foundation, are the Diocese of Hyderabad, the Camillians and the Camillian Lay Family. The partnership will achieve important results for the flood-affected population.
The local partners who will collaborate in the implementation of the project are the parish priest, the catechists, the St. Francis Youth Group (locals) and the Daughters of the Holy Cross (religious sisters).
The area of intervention will focus on the parish of St. Francis, located in the district of Nawabshah, and will assist 33,000 people. The population of Nawabshah is 220,283 in 2022. Floods are among the most catastrophic and common natural events. They not only endanger lives, livelihoods and property, but also devastate the country's economy. Increased flooding is an inevitable consequence of climate change. Pakistan has received over 60 per cent of the average monsoon rainfall in just three weeks since the monsoon season began in July 2022.
Since the population lived below the poverty line, they lost everything with this flood: property, livestock, etc. The flood waters invaded their villages and devoured their property.
Belonging to a different faith from the majority is another battle that has to be faced in Pakistan. People belonging to different religious traditions have been discriminated against. They not only suffer from the loss of their material goods, but also experience mental and spiritual agony in this cruel situation. In this scenario, they need material help and special attention to the psycho-spiritual well-being of these victims.
The overall goal of the project is to bring God's merciful love of Christ and alleviate the suffering caused by the 2022 floods.
The specific objectives of the project are:
1. To provide food for one month.
2. To provide medicine and medicines for ordinary illnesses and injuries at the individual level.
3. In an emergency, respond to serious illnesses through hospitalisation and treatment.
4. Provide mosquito nets and blankets.
The project aims to distribute 4500 relief packages (food, non-food items such as quilts, hygiene kits for men, women and children). The parcels are sufficient for a month's supply to families. The average size of a family in Pakistan is 5-6 people; therefore about 27,000 people, including children, will be helped.

The Camillian Lay Family already has a track record of responding to disasters during the earthquake and floods of past years. We have already started collecting data to know the basic needs of the flood victims, so that we can provide them with basic necessities, hygiene kits, women's health kits.
