India, Thailand and the Philippines are experiencing dramatic weeks of unprecedented heavy rainfall coupled with the monsoon causing floods and landslides impacting millions of population. Climate experts called it the “new normal” amid climate change.
It is well known that Southeast Asia is one of the most at-risk areas for natural disasters, but in recent years, the situation has been exacerbated to such an extent that extreme weather phenomena never leave those lands.
CADIS Thailand, CTF India and CTF Philippines have been working in the field for years to respond promptly to emergencies. And that is what is happening these days.
The various teams of professionals and volunteers are already operational with relief operations, but the support of CADIS donors is essential to assist the affected population, which is why the emergency fund is always active.
We remind you that there are several ways to support CADIS International

INDIA
In response to the recent devastating floods in the Vijayawada and Khammam regions, the Camillian Task Force (CTF) has launched an intervention to support the affected communities. The floods, caused by excessive rainfall, resulted in widespread destruction, displacement of families and severe damage to property and infrastructure. Many people have lost their homes and livelihoods and urgent assistance is needed to restore normalcy.
The CTF team, under the leadership of Br Madhu V. Babu, conducted an initial assessment of the flood-affected areas to understand the extent of the damage better and identify the immediate needs of the communities. The team visited several places, including the Bishop's office in Vijayawada, the Director of the Social Service Centre and several parish stations, to collaborate and discuss the most effective ways to provide relief and support to the affected families.
Among the team members who participated in this assessment are Fr Christopher, Fr Shiju and Fr Sikendra, who are all committed to bringing help and compassion to the people suffering from the floods.
CTF warmly invites you to share your support in any way you can to help these communities recover. Your prayers, resources and assistance will go a long way in bringing hope and relief to those in need. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of the families affected by the flooding.
Let us stand together in this time of crisis and stretch out our hands in service to those suffering.
THAILAND
On 10 September 2024, CADIS Thailand and the Camillians went to Khun Yum District, Mae Hong Son Province, to help families affected by the flooding and landslide that followed. Many villages have been badly affected and are challenging to reach, and many families have been displaced. Fr Santi and Fr Charoen are looking after 10-20 villages each. They have delivered 100 sets of livelihood bags containing rice, canned food and money for the most urgent items, medicines, blankets and more. Thanks to the Camillian Sisters for donating drinking water, thanks to Sister Amante of the CHANTHABURI Cross for the medicines and to all the volunteers who helped.
It is difficult to reach all the villages, so we appeal to your generosity to help the survivors. May God bless you all.
PHILIPPINES
The Camillian Task Force Philippines responded immediately to Typhoon Yagi (Enteng) and heavy monsoon rains (Habitat) that hit south-central Luzon and the National Capital Region.
With the heavy rains and major flooding also in the Cainta Rizal Camillian Mission area, the Camillian Task Force Philippines continues to care for the most vulnerable.
Community volunteers are ready to distribute food, medicine and hot meals to displaced families.
2-3 September 2024: More than 403 families were reached, especially those living near rivers and displaced by severe flooding and destroyed houses. Children and the sick were also accommodated in our Church's evacuation facilities to keep them safe and dry from the inclement weather.
6-7 September: in cooperation with women volunteers from Tau Gamma, relief packages were prepared for displaced families affected by the floods and rains.
These relief packages are symbols of hope and joy from the people who want to send a message that they are not alone in this situation of torment and despair.
They were distributed to 150 families in Cainta, Taytay Rizal.
8-9 September: Camillian Task Force Philippines reached displaced families in Pililia, Rizal, especially those whose homes were affected by landslides and overflowing rivers.
We reached some 108 families and fed hot meals, especially to the children still in the evacuation centres.
We thank Taugamma Rizal for her continued assistance and cooperation.
